Dear Premier Wynn.
It has come to my attention that your government knew of the closure of the Heinz plant in Leamington Ontario and did nothing. I assume that because you have made no comments that you did do something, you must have done nothing.
I don't know what the discussions with Heinz were, but they can't have been much.
Your reply in the media was a just way of saying that there was nothing you could have done. Well you are so wrong.
You could have contacted the thousands of workers who won't have jobs, the farmers, suppliers, unions, the Feds, the mayor of Leamington and the Warden of Essex County and and all the residents who have depended on this company for the last 100 years and said, " look, this is coming, what can we do to stop it?".
Even if the closing was unstoppable you could have led the charge. We might have gone down, but we would have gone to the closing kicking and screaming and putting up one hell of a fight.
You sat there and this area was thrown under the proverbial bus. Now every company in Ontario knows that our provincial government is going to let them pick up and leave without a fight.
I want you to look at the Heinz products in your cupboard and on the store shelves- Ketchup, Baby food, tomato juice, vinegar, pickles. Where it said, Made in Canada, it is now going to say, Made in the USA. And remember that you did nothing to stop it.
I would like everyone who is reading this to contact the Premier and let her know what you think. http://correspondence.premier.gov.on.ca/en/feedback/default.aspx
